Short tour @ Digha Sea Beach - Westbengal

Digha - A Quick and Nice place for weekend travel for everyone. Digha is most nearest place of Kolkata where you can find the beautiful Sea Beach. Its 190KM away from Kolkata. You can easily go there by public transport like train / bus. Also you can hire private cars.

Trains:

There are currently 4-5 trains available for Digha. The Digha Duronto Express is the best train for reaching digha quickly. It takes 3.30 Hours to get in touch with Digha. Other train and bus will accomplish your journey with 4.30 - 5.30 Hours. However train is the best comfortable journey for this travel. There is a train on Saturday @ 7.50 AM named Paharia Express - is most awful / irritating train. Try to avoid that train @ any cost. The route of the train is NJP > Howrah > Digha. So usually this train late too much. 5 - 6 Hours lates is very common for this one.

** There is a train @ morning from Digha to Kolkata which is not listed in train advance booking system. Actually the train is from Digha to Satragachi and its DMU type train. Its looks totally different from other trains. Timing of the train is @ 5.40 AM. From Santragachi you can find enough local trains. So if you return with this train, there is no issue with it.

Bus:

You can find enough Buses or Coaches for travel to Digha. Generally they depart form Esplanade Bus terminal, also you can Find them from different location. Like Ultadanga, Karunamoyee, Barasat Etc. Bus service is well, if you select goverment buses they will charge you less and maintain there departure and arrival timing. But in other private capsule bus or video coaches, the time is not guaranteed. All the buses will take passengers from Road, but as a reserved customer you don't have to left your seat for them. Some AC bus are available. but they are very specific. The private bus may charged you near Rs. 100/- or some how more or less. AC buses will charged you approx Rs.300.

Private Cars:

This will depend on your location from where you are coming. You can estimate near 4000-5500 from proper Kolkata or nearby around 30 KM. Parking charges may be applicable.

Accomodations:

At Digha there are so many hotels. So you dont have to worry because you can stay there surely without advance booking, it may be season timing, rooms are available always. Also you can find many resturents, so if you want to avoid huge fooding charge by Hotels, you can go outside and get foods in very cheap rate or standerd rate. Try to avoid meats, because you can avail fresh verious kind of fishes, so I think it will be best for taking meal with fish.

The Sea Beach:

The Digha Beach is very dangerous. You will find boulders most of the place to keep digha

safe. But you can find actual beach @ New Digha, and back side of Old Digha. Digha is devided in two parts by local words. New and Old. Difference is Old one is clumsy and Hotels are @ front of Sea.

You can view the Ocean from your hotel rooms. But in new digha the hotels are little back side. However you can find old digha sea beach @ back side of Old digha. Its known as Hawx Sea beach. This beach is very interesting and somehow dangerous. The waves are bigger than the new digha sea beach. The waves come from different location. Like front of you and right side of you. Thats why its pretty much interesting. But in New digha the waves comes only from front of you.
